3 Top Ways People Get Infected by an Email Virus

By now we are all very familiar with viruses and what they do, so let us not dwell on that and instead move on to one of the ways where our daily-use things are used to infect us with viruses; I am talking, of course, about emails. Most of us communicate through email daily, so it would be wise of you to go through this article and understand what forms email viruses can take.

Email viruses usually take these three forms. Check below:

1.A Virus as an Email Hoax
Not always do viruses come as programs. Sometimes they can just be plain emails. Have you ever come across chain emails or letters, a virus warning or something of this sort? This works when you forward this to someone else out of innocence and naivety and that person does the same and so do thousands of others. Although this might seem harmless on an individual scale, when done by many people, they clog up email servers and inboxes, not to mention waste the time and energy of thousands of people in the process.

Next time you receive such mails, do not forward them or even open them unless you are sure they are genuine.

2.A Virus in an Email Attachment
These are the more common types of email viruses. Some evil programmer somewhere injects a virus in the email attachment file and sends it to you. You download the harmless looking file and run it without scanning first. Boom! You are now the not so proud owner of a gazillion viruses. Congratulations on not following the basic safety rules of not opening files from untrusted sources and scanning files before opening.

Remember to never download attachments from emails you do not trust and definitely do not open them without scanning first!

3.A Virus in the Email Body
If you went through some of my other articles, you have already heard of me talking about emails and HTML. This is it. HTML is required to display pictures and links in your email body. However, that HTML can also be used to embed scripts that run automatically and infect your computer with virus.

Now that you know the reason behind it, turn off your HTML off and stop opening mails from illegitimate sources.
